Our guest today is a Professor who studies complex systems, collective intelligence, teams, and political and economic institutions.
He earned a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a Masters in Managerial Economics from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a PhD in Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences also from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
He is known for his research on and modeling of diversity and complexity in the social sciences with a particular interest in the roles that diversity plays in complex systems; answering questions such as: how does diversity arise? Does diversity make a system more productive? How does diversity impact robustness? And, does it make a system prone to large events?
In addition to nearly one hundred published papers, he’s also taped three video courses, raised two sons, five dogs, and nine cattle, and written five books, including:
“The Model Thinker – What you need to know to make data work for you” – which stresses the application of ensembles of models to make sense of complex phenomena;
“The Difference”, which demonstrates the benefits and costs of diversity in social contexts,
“The Diversity [Bonus] – How Great Teams Pay Off in the Knowledge Economy” which follows up and expands on the themes in The Difference
So please, help me in welcoming our guest today - the John Seely Brown Distinguished University Professor of Complexity, Social Science, and Management at the University of Michigan - Dr. Scott E. Page!
